New accounts start in Full Access: your bookmarks are stored on our server so the dashboard, search and AI organization can use them. Encrypted mode encrypts them in your browser first, and we store ciphertext we cannot decrypt. You can switch in Settings. Switching to Encrypted deletes the readable copy on our server.

You set a passphrase
An AES-256 encryption key is derived using PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations. This key never leaves your browser.

Your bookmarks are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being sent to our server. We receive ciphertext we cannot decrypt.
Other browsers decrypt with same passphrase
Install the extension on another browser, enter the same passphrase, and your bookmarks appear. We cannot read them.
Abigail is a free app that runs on your own machine and remembers things for you. With the TabbJam extension, search on tabbjam.com can also show what she remembers. If you self-host TabbJam on that same machine, you can also search your bookmarks by meaning, not keywords — "everything about TypeScript" finds the right links even when that word never appears. She answers only on your machine, so our server never sees what she knows.
